A form of slavery

An excerpt from the inspirational book "HALF THE SKY" written by Nicholas D. Krisof and Sheryl WuDunn.

"You have to serve the customers," the boss told her as he punched her.  "If not, we will beat you to death.  Do you want that?"  Rath stopped protesting, but she sobbed and refused to cooperate actively.  The boss forced her to take a pill; the gangsters called it "the happy drug" or "the shake drug."  She doesn't know exactly what it was, but it made her head shake and induced lethargy, happiness, and compliance for about an hour.  When she wasn't drugged, Rath was teary and insufficiently complaint-she was required to beam happily at all customers- so the boss said he would waste no more time on her: She would agree to do as she was ordered or he would kill her.  Rath then gave in.  The girls were forced to work in the brothel seven days a week, fifteen hours a day.  They were kept naked to make it more difficult for them to run away or to keep tips or other money, and they were forbidden to ask customers to use condoms.

This is just a small glimpse of what a young, innocent girl may go through in the beginning stages of being a slave in a brothel.  Reading this book and hearing these stories brought me to tears.  As I flew through the pages, I was painted a clear picture of how horrific this life is that they are forced into.

I still am in contact with the gentleman in my town- who took us to visit a girls home I wrote about in a previous blog.  He has said before that there were girls he knows of already- currently- that need to be rescued from this nightmare, they have no place to go.. and there is just no where to take them.

Besides speaking with and working with this contact, I also hope to take very cautious steps in rescuing girls out of brothels in Manila, one of the largest cities in the Philippines.  I know this may be dangerous, but believe that with God all things are possible.  I have listed some statistics below to give you a better idea of how big of a problem this is.

Come be apart of changing lives forever.  Rescuing the helpless, the ones who can't fend for themselves.  God wants to use us to reach his children.  Join me in building a home that will house girls who have been sold into slavery.  Girls who have been beaten, neglected, and broken.  With your help they will can have new hope, a new home, proper schooling, safety, and a family.  Please consider being a supporter of this work God has placed deep in my heart.

Ok.. on a slightly different note.. one more bit of information.  The girls will get to have a mother and father.. because I am engaged!  I am thrilled to share that God has blessed me with a wonderful man, Anthony.  I have fallen head over heels in love with him.  He is a hard working, dependable, fun, smart, loving man of God, who I met in the Philippines.   We plan to be married this year!  I am in the states now, and have been able to share the news with family and friends.  Thank you all for your love, excitement, and support.  I'm so grateful to God for what is ahead.

Thank you for your prayers.  Please continue to pray for God to give me guidance and wisdom in the next steps ahead.  He has been speaking to me about many more things, but has made it clear that I must trust his timing.

Love means living the way God commanded us to live.  As you have heard from the beginning, his command is this: Live a life of love.  2 John 1:6

Some statistics found on google and wikipedia-

There are estimated to be 375,000 women and girls in the sex trade in the Philippines, mostly between the ages of 15 and 20, though some are as young as 11.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies state that there are more than 1.5 million street children in the Philippines and many end up in prostitution and drug trafficking in places such as Manila and Angeles City.
Government and NGO estimates on the number of women trafficked range from 300,000 to 400,000 and the number of children trafficked range from 60,000 to 100,000.  According to the US government reports, the number of child victims in the Philippines range from 20,000 to 100,000, with foreign tourists, particularly other Asians, as perpetrators.
An estimated 60,000 to 100,000 children in the Philippines are involved in prostitution rings, according to Minette Rimando, a spokeswoman for the U.N.'S International Labour Organization's Manila office. Based on the statistics provided by the Visayan Forum Foundation, most victims are between 12 to 22 years old.
In 2009, the Philippines was downgraded by the US State Department to a “Tier 2 Watch-List country,” with Metro Manila being a major source, destination, and transit area for girls and women. It is considered by UNICEF to have one of the world’s worst child trafficking problems. Accurate prevalence figures on sex trafficking are extremely challenging to generate due to the underground nature of human trafficking, but child trafficking estimates for the country hover around 100,000 annually.

Joy and Patience

Psalm 46:10
"Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Hi Everyone!  We have been super busy here in the PI with many new things happening.  One of our team members headed back to America last week, and last month we welcomed another.

Ehren Tacdiran
Catherina Bhagwat

So, God's timing once again is so sweet.  He is such a brilliant planner.  He is teaching me about patience.  I love that we can trust him and fully surrender our lives to him.. knowing his ways are best.

A few weeks ago we spent an afternoon visiting the girls home I mentioned... and it was a wonderful day.  The building was lively and full of beautiful women, young girls, and babies.  There they are taught how to re-enter into society, fully equipped with the necessary tools to thrive in their country.  We were so blessed to meet them all and be there with them.

One girl in particular touched my heart so deeply. Her name is *Lily.  She is fifteen years old, and lives with a small brain disiblity.  Her father, brothers, and sisters sexually abused her repeatedly so she was brought to the home for healing.  She is so full of joy!  She acts about 9 years old because of the disibility.  I was instantly drawn to her and heart.  My eyes filled with tears as we took pictures and danced around the room meeting the other women.  She was so sweet and attentive to us and the babies.  I could picture taking her home with me.  I could picture her living in the girls home that God is going to start.  God was whispering.. these are the ones I will give you to love.  These are the ones that are so special to me.  It was a sweet, sweet day.

We are communicating more with people about the property with the Red Gate!  As I mentioned in a previous blog, there is a property that a few of us (Myself, Claudia, Malica, and our friends here in the PI) have been praying for.  The price is higher then we hope.. but I know God is in control, and he has been softening the owners hearts!  They dropped the price a little, but we are waiting for them to drop it more while we pray for funds to come in.  After we are able to buy a property for the girls home.. we will need to build the home as well!  So all in all, I think the amount we are looking to raise is just over $100,000.  With God all things are possible.  He is teaching me how to be patient and trust his timing.

Another great update is- we are having a grand opening for our library!!  Saturday May 26th is the big day.  We will be offering new classes to the community, such as- Computers, Inductive Bible Study, English, Power of Prayer, Kids hour with Bible games and stories, Dance class with scripture memorization, and Seminary highlights.  Our hope is that the library will be the hub of our community, bringing people from all over and drawing them here to meet Jesus.  Please keep this in prayer as we will be starting strong, ready to see what God wants to do!

Lastly, a new ministry we are blessed with is at our friend Pastor Ray's church.  We have been given the opportunity to teach the youth Drums, Guitar, and Vocal lessons.  Once a week three of us travel to the church to do a devotion- involving how we worship Jesus through the talents and gifts he has given us. We are focusing on the attributes of God.  Following the devotion we break into the 3 groups and teach for an hour.  It has been such a wonderful time so far!  I am so thankful God has opened up this door, and we have learned that there are many other pastors who want us to come teach their youth as well.

I feel so thankful to be here in the PI.  There have been so many moments where I just am in disbelief of all the blessing's God is giving us.  He is so rich in LOVE.  All he has is ours!!

Luke 15:31
“‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.

I hope this brings a warm excitement to your heart.  God is using all OF YOU to help this ministry.  He hears your prayers!  Thank you for sharing this adventure with me.  I appreciate all of the sweet comments and encouragement you all give.  God is such a wonderful father ..  I love that we can all be apart of his body.. one family.. in Christ!

Walking with Jesus

So much is happening out here!!  Thank you all for your prayers and love.  Just a brief update.. to fill you in on how amazing God is.

This morning I found myself sitting in the municipal court speaking with a gentlemen and telling him about the vision the Lord has given me.  To start a girls home that will be a safe haven for girls who have been sold into sex trafficking.  I instantly was in awe of how God moves.  How he directs us and guides us.  How he opens doors.  He makes the plans.  He is the orchestrator! We have the privilege to visit a girls home next week; to see how they run their home, make connections, and pray with them.  Many times there are more girls that have been rescued, but this home and others are full, with no space to house the girls.  They are in need of a home to bring these rescued children to!  Wow, God is in control.  He is setting things up!

Please continue to pray for God's direction for this vision.  Financial support, protection for the girls, healing, and for God to speak clearly about his plan.  We need funds to buy a property, build the home, and continued support for the girls.  Beds, clothing, and food are just some things that will be needed for the future. Thank you for this... prayer is the most important part!  God hears our prayers.

Genesis 28:15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

Another update to share is that we are growing closer with the basketball team, and are privileged to see God working in these young men's lives.  We bring four of them with us to church on our motorcycles, and share Jesus with them.  We hang out, eat meals together, play cards, read the bible, go to their basketball games.  It's beautiful to think of Jesus just bringing the disciples wherever he went.  They lived life with him!  This is what it feels like with our new friends.   They are our family!

I have been teaching dance classes with about 20 children every Monday night.  It's sweet because God is having me put dance movements to bible scriptures!  The kids love it... and I  am so blessed by the class.  We have so much fun.  God is always speaking to me.. saying.. "Jane, if this was your child, what would you want for them..?  How would you show them love..?  Love these little one's as if they are your own."
So that is what I aim to do.  Love these children with all I have.. with all of HIS love.. GOD's LOVE.  It's only possible if we let him love through us.  We can't do it on our own.  When we are weak, he is strong!!

May God bring you peace that passes all understanding today .....

Philippians 4:7-And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

NEW VISION

These past few months have been incredible. God is so faithful, and is showering us with rich blessings from above.  There will always be up's and down's throughout our lives.. but the key is to keep Jesus as the first thing you go to.. the one you CLING to.. the one you depend on for EVERYTHING!  His joy and is our strength.  He is always walking beside us.

Isaiah 41:10  So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

I am loving it here more and more.  We have been getting to know the neighbors down the street.  Praying with them, talking with them, hearing their needs, asking who needs more help with food and clothing.  Praying when people are sick.  Inviting the basketball players to bible studies and over for breakfast.  Spending time with people and sharing about Jesus.  HE is what life is about.  HIS LOVE.  His gift of salvation.  Knowing him!  He is allowing us to become friends with his people here.. so we fall in love with them... and let his love flow through us... as a vessel !!!  He is truly all we need.

NEW VISION-

So.. GOD has given me a desire in my heart.  I believe it is from his heart.  He has spoken to me about building a home for girls here in the PI,  to rescue them out of sex trafficking.  Many people turn to whatever they can for money here.  Girls and even boys can be sold into this life style.  This can start at an age as young as 4 years old.  Little children being thrown into situations beyond their control... to be violated again and again by people who are supposed to be taking care of them and loving them.  It breaks my heart to think about the damage being done to these precious children.  I know that we can help!!  God is leading me on this journey and I invite you to be apart of it.

Prayer is number one.  To be connected with Jesus and know how to go about this process.  There is a piece of property that I have seen and started praying for.  Please join me in this!! It is a secure property, with a red gate, a great size, and in a good location.  I am excited and know God can move in this!  The price is high, but with God all things are possible.  Please pray he will provide the money, and or that the hearts of the land owners will be softened; and that they would consider lowering the price.

Prayer for protection and wisdom is also needed.  I know that I will need to start linking up with organizations that can help rescue the children out of this lifestyle.  One step at a time though... :)  God is allowing me to move slowly with him.  He is not revealing too many things.. because I believe it would be overwhelming.  I can see the house though.  I can see the girls running around giggling and playing in the home.  I can see him bringing healing and joy into their lives... and mine!!  I can see the gathering's at the dinner table.  I can see the smiles that GOD will bring through all of us learning more about his healing and love.  I know it will not be an easy journey.. but what do we have to lose..?  I believe we have everything to GAIN.

It's exciting to ask God for more faith right now.  DO I BELIEVE HE can do anything he promises in his word..?!  I thought I would be coming here for 6 months- 1 year.  Now it may be for the rest of my life.  Tears come to my eyes when I think how much God is changing my perspective.  He is opening my heart to a deeper love.. with him and his children.  If we know we are loved by our creator, our FATHER in Heaven, KING of KINGS, LORD of LORDS.. can't we then be so free to give his love away?  Why are we holding onto it?  Why do we fear to open our hearts to people..?  I challenge you to let God break down your walls and go deeper within you.  He has so much to give.. and has given it to us already.  His love!  His son!  Will we be givers of his love?  Or will we try to take all we can and protect ourselves from any pain.. by not choosing love?

Jump in he says.  Jump into this life of LOVE.  Jump into an adventure where you have to trust me in all that you do.

If you would like to help support this ministry please visit mogiv.com/rockmissions  and click on Jane Breckenfeld to make a donation.  It could be a one time gift.  Or if you would like to partner with me, you could invest in helping these girls for their future.  To help them grow, learn the bible, go to school, and live a life that they were intended to live.  Not one as a slave for others sin/pleasure.

Thank you for reading this... thank you for praying.  Thank you for your love.

Updates

Magandang Hapon!  That means good afternoon :)  I wanted to update you all on the past few weeks here, and share with you what the Lord has done.  I hope everyone reading this had a blessed Christmas and New Years.. filled with laughter, joy, and Jesus.  We sure did!  After the short term team headed back to the US, many many celebrations were thrown to celebrate the holidays.  We were invited to multiple parties everyday!  It was lots of fun-- we got to see just how much this culture loves to simply "be" in eachother's company.  But to back up..I will share about the 3 week trip first!!

What a huge blessing it was to come out here with a group of 30 world changers from Impact 195!  God carefully pieced together a beautiful group of his servants to come love, serve, fellowship, and teach the people in the Philippines.  We had the opportunity as a group to paint the police station, dig to help build bathrooms, bend and construct rebar to create structures for a kitchen, visit high schools and elementary schools to teach, peform a skit, and sing worship music, and not to mention over 1,000 children raised their hands to accept Jesus!  It was an incredible time that helped get us ready for this adventure God has us on here :)  I cannot thank all of you enough who were apart of this work.. God really moved.  It was a special time.

These past few weeks have been quite busy-- but SO filled with God's presence and blessings.  Claudia and Malica have been here for 11 months.. plowing the ground for new ministries.  God brought me to tears when we first arrived when I realized how much they have been doing- and how grateful I am for them.  We have started creating a schedule of what the next few months will look like.. collaborating together as a team.  Tagalog lessons, teachings at the Police station, College, and High School.  There are also a few bible studies already happening here that Claudia and Malica began with the women.  Sports night is going to start and family night as well.

There are so many more things to tell you... but for now I wanted to share about one family in particular.  The mother of this family's name is Gloria.  She has 5 children, and her husband recently had a stroke and is unable to move and work the way he used to.  She works so hard everyday and is in love with Jesus!!  Her children are so precious.  They sometimes go without food and are very small.  Currently Darius- 6 yrs- and Donna Mae-8yrs- are very sick.. and I'm writing this to ask you to pray.  They all break my heart... but I know God has many plans for each one of them.  The other Children are Marlon-10 yrs-, Mary Joy - 11 yrs- and Jana- 4 yrs-.  You can't help but scoop these children up and twirl them around, showering them with kisses when you see them everyday.  Little Jana is always squealing with laughter as she runs away from you.. hoping you will chase her and pick her up in your arms.  They truly bless my life.  We hope to find a way to help the father and support his family by us hiring him to help us with our vegetable garden.  Please email me or go to www.mogiv.com/rockmissions if you ever want to help support.  We have already had the opportunity to bless them with eggs, meat, pasta, and plan on sharing our food with them as often as we can!  Thank you all for your constant prayers and financial support.  Without you this would not be possible!!  Below are a few pictures of the family.
Much love, and happy new year!  I feel so blessed to be here, and thank God for these lives he is allowing us to get to know and love.

Leaving...

So,  tomorrow, at 9:00pm, I will embark on an adventure that only God could have orchestrated.  A group of us are heading to Pangasinan, Philippines to seek lost souls and show them the love of Jesus!  The majority of the team will be staying for 3 weeks, while 5 of us are going to join two other missionaries for 6 months -1 year.  I'm beyond excited!!  God is so good!

I wanted to create this blog with the hopes of keeping it.. no matter where the Lord leads.  So.. I pondered over various names and idea's.. not feeling like anything was clicking.  Then the Lord brought to my memory a vision he gave me while I was in India last year.  I will explain.  At the end of this vision I was swimming to the bottom of a dark, filthy, lifeless, murky pond- which was resembling the darkness that I had once lived in and found my identity in.  Jesus was swimming with me:)  When we reached the bottom I picked up something, not knowing what it was, and instantly a force was pushing us straight up to the surface of the pond.  When we came to the surface and crawled up onto the land... I looked at the water which now was bright blue, gorgeous and sparkling.  Looking down I then saw what was in my hand. I was holding 1 single pearl.  It was as if the Lord was showing me he can take our darkness and make something beautiful.  That even though we were walking in filth, he takes all of our mess and makes us new.  I was, and am, so grateful for his kindness, patience, long suffering, and love!

This is where the title Beautiful Pearls came from.. and that is what this blog will be filled with.  Beautiful stories of reaching God's children..  meeting them right where they are.. and loving them.  With his love.  No matter what the cost.

Thank you for being apart of this journey!!  I cannot wait to share more once we arrive in Pangasinan!

Love, Janey
